Planting Instructions

1. Best Time to Plant:
   • In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost.
   • In warmer areas, sow seeds directly in the garden in early spring or late summer for a fall harvest.
2. Soil Preparation:
   • Use loose, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. A neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.0) is ideal.
3. Sow the Seeds:
   • Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in rows spaced 12–18 inches apart. Thin seedlings to 4–6 inches apart for bulb development.

Watering Tips

• Consistent Moisture: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to rot.
• Mulch: Add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Growing and Maintenance

1. Fertilizing:
   • Feed with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during early growth. Switch to a phosphorus-rich fertilizer as bulbs begin to form.
2. Weeding:
   • Onions don’t compete well with weeds, so keep the bed weed-free to allow proper growth.
3. Support:
   • Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. Avoid overhead watering.
